(Hong Kong, 28 March 2026) — The Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) today held the opening ceremony for the Children’s Cancer Foundation Community Services Centre (Wong Tai Sin), marking the official resumption of its services following a comprehensive renovation. Concurrently, the centre launched the brand-new Wong Shing Yim Applied Health Education Centre. The opening event welcomed Mrs Chandni Rakesh, Non-official Member of the Commission on Children, as the Guest of Honour.

Upgraded Facilities to Ease the Burden on Caregivers

The fully revitalised Community Services Centre underwent extensive refurbishment last year to elevate its services by optimising space design and upgrading facilities. In addition to offering case assessments, the centre features a dedicated medical equipment loan service.

For instance, childhood cancer patients often rely on specialised wheelchairs to maintain their quality of life. However, these items are not only costly but must be frequently replaced as children grow. For parents, this loan service significantly relieves both financial strain and storage challenges, while effectively easing the physical burden on caregivers.

Interactive Health Education Born from a Legacy of Love

The newly established Wong Shing Yim Applied Health Education Centre delivers engaging, applied health education tailored for children aged 4 to 7 through exhibitions, interactive experiences, and practical health workshops. Through play, children can learn fascinating facts about the human body and everyday healthcare tips, cultivating a strong awareness of health and well-being from an early age. A prior trial run of the centre received an enthusiastic response, with participants noting that the interactive experiences made it much easier for young children to understand human anatomy.

The creation of this education centre carries a deeply moving story of love and gratitude. In 1998, the beloved daughter of Ms Wong Shing Yim was diagnosed with brain cancer. Throughout her long battle with the illness, the family received professional support and dedicated care from CCF, and she ultimately made a full recovery. Although Ms Wong has since passed away, her reminder to her children to remain grateful and give back to society became a core belief upheld by her family. To carry forward their mother’s legacy of love and benevolence, Ms Katrina Chuk and her family funded the project in loving memory of her mother, transforming personal gratitude into a lasting community impact.

Voices from the Ceremony

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Timothy Lam, Vice Chairman of CCF, shared:

"This refurbishment is not merely an upgrade of our physical space; it represents another vital milestone in the development of our services. We are deeply humbled by the trust and unwavering support we receive from all sectors of the community."

The Guest of Honour, Mrs Chandni Rakesh, noted in her address:

"Education should not be confined to traditional models. It can be far more diverse — for instance, through health education that supports both the physical and psychological development of children."

Reflecting on the motivation behind the donation, Ms Katrina Chuk said:

"The support we received carried us through our most difficult times. We hope to pass this strength onward."

Ms Katrina Chuk and her family funded the project in memory of her mother, naming it the "Wong Shing Yim Applied Health Education Centre".

Looking Ahead

The Wong Shing Yim Applied Health Education Centre is now officially open. CCF warmly invites members of the public to stay tuned and actively participate, working together to bring hope and support to more children and families.

It is the CCF's sincere hope that the newly revitalised Community Services Centre at Wong Tai Sin will become a vital community hub connecting families, schools, and healthcare networks, allowing love and hope to continuously blossom across the community.
